Cypress Tree Transit and Personality- July 26-August 14 & Jan 25- Feb 3

The Cypress Tree is a tree of faithfulness in all areas of life- romance, friendship, and business.  As highly monogamous people, they typically only have a small number of partners in their life. As adaptable people, they don’t find happiness in abundance, but rather through the little small things in life. As highly honourable people, they have an strong ability to succeed in life and rarely rely on others. One of their greatest lessons is to be able to delegate tasks to others and to honour other people’s abilities as much as they honour their own. They may also experience confrontations with death throughout their life, either through experiencing many deaths, working in Palliative Care or other funerary line of work, or might question the finality of life. Appreciating the fragility of life and every single moment is a key soul lesson for Cypress Tree people.

During this transit you will find yourself extremely sensitive to your environment. It’s not uncommon to lash out at others in the workplace or at home, because Cypress transits hate anyone or anything invading their personal space. It’s best to spend as much time near water as possible for grounding purposes.

Magically, Cypress Trees are connected to death. It is used for binding and releasing and easing grief. This connection is due to the fact that Ancient Egyptians used Cypress wood to make their sarcophagi and the cross Jesus was crucified on is also made of Cypress. Cypress Trees are linked to the goddess Isis- so it’s also a good time to work with her energies as well.

Cypress means ‘ever living’ in Ancient Greek and can be found throughout art and literature as a symbol of death and mortality. Today Cypress wood is still used to make coffins in Egypt and in the US and France they are often planted in graveyards. This tree is sacred to the Cyprians to whom this tree is a native of.  This transit is one of endings- it may feel as though you are in a transitory state right now. It’s a time of letting go of the old in order to welcome in the new. You can experience a sort of ‘soul death’ or existential crisis that will assist you in rising up to your higher self. It’s the Cypress Tree’s strong association with resurrection that links it to the Obelisk, to which they look very similar. Ascension is likely during this transit.

*Agrippa connects Cypress Trees to Mars- perhaps this is due to its ability to grown in drought like conditions.

Road with Cypress and Star- Vincent Van Gogh- 1890

In a letter to his brother Theo, Van Gogh said this about Cypress Trees “”always occupying [his] thoughts” and that he found them “beautiful of line” and proportioned like an Egyptian obelisk. ”

The evening star on the left of the tree and the crescent moon on the right side of the Cypress might be connected to the conjunction of Venus and Mercury on April 20, 1890 when the luminescence of these two planets were comparable to the star Sirius.

The Cypress Tree in the middle of these two heavenly bodies is thought to represent death- an obelisk reaching up to the stars- as Cypress Trees are strongly associated with mortality. Historians of Art believe that Van Gogh knew he was going to die and wanted to paint a cosmic representation of this. The two companions walking down the path can be symbolic of the the physical body and the soul or Van Gogh’s desire for companionship and his depiction of universal love.

Christians viewed the Fir Tree as the Tree of Life, gifting everyone with life force. During these few days your energies will increase. The solid and straight trunk of the tree is a constant reminder to be your own unique self, as the path that is illuminated, is the path for you.
