New Moon in Taurus May 15, 2018: The Rosebud

Moonbeams: Find your happiness. You will bloom when the conditions are right.

The New Moon in Taurus is special for a few reasons. Firstly, on the day of the NM Uranus moves into the sign of Taurus until 2026 which is going to detabilize our sense of security. Check out my blog all about this here. Secondly, Mars is at the final degree of Capricorn which feels like a do or die situation. Thirdly, Mars is squaring Uranus which is amping up the voltage. Let’s take a closer look shall we.

“The day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” – Anais Nin

This year’s Taurus New Moon lacks the cushy stability it’s known for. It’s as though the other planets and energies are hijacking the security that we usually feel with Taurean moons.

Mars is squaring Uranus during this NM making us feel restless and ruthless. Remember that Mars at 29 degrees feels like jumping off the bridge just because he’s desparate for a change. Be careful not to take any foolish risks. It’s best to channel this intense energy through exercise and movement. Taurus is a sensual sign so there is a major test we are being handed from the universe. How grounded can you be admist chaos?

Mars and Pluto are making a trine to the NM can bring up some deep seated emotions leading to angry outbursts or suppressed sadness. On a positive note great healing can be accomplished in the two week span of the NM. Mars & Pluto trining the NM brings Venus the ruler of the NM into the mix as well. Bringing these three planets together will help us to understand where we are devaluing ourselves. As whatshisface once sang, “every rose has its thorn” but does that make the Rose ugly or does it simply show that beauty doesn’t come without pain?

Venus the ruler of the NM is is Gemini which is an intellectual placement. We have the ability to rationalize and make sense of everything that”s going on. It’s a nice relief from all of the intensity.

To go back to the Anais Nin quote above, there is a frustration that has been present for a while now. We have three planets in Capricorn- Saturn, Pluto, & Mars. It feels as though time has stopped moving and we want to forge ahead. It feels incredibly stagnant and slow which is driving everyone crazy. We are ready to blossom because it’s no fun being a bud anymore. Flowers know that when the conditions are right, they will bloom. Uranus moving into the sign of Taurus is agitating the soil. Emotions are stirring at this NM which will activate new growth. Flowers value their conditions because without them- sunlight, water, soil, shade, they would never survive. Instead of resenting your current situation, look to nature- Taurus’ domain for guidance. Appreciate the beauty that surrounds you, love your struggles, and be grateful for slowness….afterall, Roses only bloom for a few short weeks. Value your time as a bud, because that will determine the beauty of your bloom.

Did you know Roses are ruled by Taurus?

Uranus in Taurus 2018-2026: Agitating the Soil

No jobThe planet of the unexpected and of the revolution is entering the earthy sign Taurus May 2018 and will remain there until 2026. Many Astrologers are predicting dystopian events with this transit, as will I, but I would also like to discuss how this transit will impact us on an individual level.

The Facts

The last time Uranus was in Taurus was 1934-1942- a very difficult time- we had the Great Depression and World War Two. It is said that planetary transits occur in cycles, so we can expect similar recurring events to unfold. Of course, we are in a different time so the events will not be exactly the same, but they will be of a similar energy.

Uranus rules instability, shocks, surprises, innovation, technology, engineering, the New Age, experiments, weirdness, rebellion, & revolution. Taurus rules the Earth, sensuality, food, houses, all material things, values, self worth, comfort, & life. Combiningthe energy of Uranus & Taurus will bring these archetypes together.

Predictions

Please keep in mind that Taurus is a stabilizing fixed energy so while Uranus brings the unexpected, we can expect these changes to be long lasting. What I’m about to share might be a little depressing, but it won’t be as bad as it sounds. Uranus it teaming up with Taurus which is an ultra feminine energy, so all of these big changes will be presented in a very sexy alluring way.

Financial

The last Uranus in Taurus transit was 1934-1942. This is when a lot of countries abandoned the gold standard. Instead, they adopted the Fiat currency which means you were no longer able to trade money for gold. Money determined its own value. There’s been a lot of talk about Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies taking over the world, but I feel it won’t occur unti the end of this transit. Too many people still have way too much money. Economies first have to destabilize (Uranus) before everyone is willing to adopt cryptocurrency.

Banks will be transforming. A big bank where I live in Canada, has recently entered the start up industry, becoming sort of like a silicon valley type of institution. They are definitely getting into the tech industry, and will be spending millions of dollars over the next few years to educate their staff on technological advancements (Uranus) in the banking sector. The face of Banking Institutions will be changing. In fact, in Ontario Canada, they don’t even issue mortgages anymore. Look what’s happening in Australia. Their banking system is on the verge of collapse, if not already. I predict there will be more and more of this kind of stuff happening all over the world.

Real Estate

Taurus rules houses which means real estate. Real Estate all over the world has become so expensive it’s unaffordable. This has been in the works for decades because the global elitist agenda wants everyone to rent. Renting will become the new home ownership. Communal living will also be more desirable such as condos, and townhomes due to their price difference. Having multiple families living together will introduce something along the lines of a head tax, where each occupant is required to pay a tax. There will be sustainability undertones to this. Private investors will no longer be able to flip houses or privately rent them for a multitude of reasons, one of the main ones being price. I can’t tell you how many people I know who own 2 properties because they thought they could flipIt will go back to the days of Lords owning all the real estate. We will be the Habitants (peasants) who have to pay some rich corporation to live in a home. Banks aren’t interested in the mortgage industry anymore because the days of buying houses are over. The housing bubble will burst over the course of this 8 year transit.

With Real Estate we will also see the tiny house movement gaining more traction. Not everyone will be living in trailers, but I have noticed that all the new builds are the size of a tuna can. I saw a commercial for something called the ‘Mini Movement’ which is encouraging people to decide how much stuff they really need to have in their house? The concept of “necessities” and “essentials” will be changing drastically. If you live in a dwelling the size of a tuna can, you can’t own anything, and you can’t have a family. I heard the other day on the news that “dogs are the new children.” The media is pushing this belief that having a dog is more sustainable and eco friendly than having a child. The days of the nuclear families are over because infertility rates are soaring, and it has become too expensive to support a family. Although you wouldn’t equate minimalism with Taurus- I do think Uranus has a purging energy to it.

I also predict things like Airbnb, and shared spaces to become the norm. Private companies can now actually rent individual rooms in high rise buildings that other companies rent.

Houses and buildings in general will become more technologically advanced. Things like “smart homes” will become desirable, and in many cases, older dwellings will be retrofitted to accommodate these new technologies. Geothermal heating systems and more tracking devices will be installed in homes.

Will the housing bubble burst? I do think so. I hope so.

Food
Taurus rules food and agriculture. When you throw Uranus into the mix, we can expect some shake ups here as well.

I do think there will be a push back against genetically modified foods, however, Monsanto is getting into the Organics industry and we all know they own all of seed patents, so basically we are in trouble. It will be virtually impossible to find pure organic foods, because even they are being engineered. We might start to see more foods being forced to label themselves as GMO, but this won’t really do much.
The new commodity might become food. Bayer and Monsanto have recently merged, which means that the pharmaceutical industry and food industry will be one. Let’s not forget that it was during the last Uranus in Taurus transit in the 1940s, that Bayer conducted horrendous medical experiments on the Jews and other war prisoners. We also know that Bayer commercialized hard drugs such as Heroin. The fact that they are now teaming up with Monsanto scares the hell out of me. What sorts of experiments will they be conducting with our food? The old saying goes that when you control the food supply, you control the people. Will people do anything to be able to eat? We all know the agenda keeps threatening that by 2050 the world will not be able to produce enough food to feed 10 billion people. Will food become so scarce and expensive that people will be willing to do anything to get it? The last Uranus in Taurus transit occurred at the tail end of the Great Depression. We all know about the food crisis that happened then…don’t we?

Marijuana legalization is also something to watch. Monsanto once again owns all the patents, and now that Bayer has become one with Monsanto, we have to remember that both of these companies are known for their experimentations. The government and media is pushing Marijuana very hardly lately which should make everyone suspicious. Perhaps it is beneficial, but the government owns the seeds and plants. They can engineer it with all kinds of stuff. Neptune is in Pisces which is highly deceptive. When Saturn was last in Capricorn, Neptune was in Virgo which was World War Two. Capricorn = government, and Neptune in Virgo= medicine. Nazi experimentations with medicine took place. The alignments are virtually the same this time around!!

Political

Some Astrologers believe that Uranus in Taurus will see the collapse of the European Union and the revival of empires and kingdoms. Taurus rules over royalty and the super rich, so this could be a possibility. Trade agreements will be revamped or canceled altogether.

Transportation
Many also believe that transportation will be revamped. Both Uranus and Taurus rule over cars and technology, so perhaps more smart cars will be made, and ride sharing services will become the norm.

Personal Level

Uranus in Taurus will see everyone revamping their value systems. What you think you want is not what you want, and things that you never thought you would experience will happen. This will affect the Taurus ruled area of your natal chart. Taurus is the first Earth sign in the zodiac so it specifically rules over humans…us. Everything that we thought we knew about ourselves will be changing very quickly.

Uranus in Aries was all about destabilizing your ego. Now that your ego has been destabilized, Taurus will help you get in touch with this new version of yourself and refine it. For example; if Uranus in Aries transited your 10th house of career, during the past 8 years you experienced a lot of ups and downs with your career. You probably changed your mind a lot and couldn’t seem to find the right fit. With Uranus moving into your 11th house now, you will be reevaluating your long term goals, and you will be put into contact with the right people who can help make your dreams become a reality.

The first 3 months of any transit are always the most intense, so this summer will be crazyyy! Uranus will be destabilizing your sense of security in your Taurus ruled house most forcefully from May-August. The rest will happen gradually over 8 years.

Uranus and Aries are both unstable energies that act before they think. Taurus is an earthy grounding sign, so Uranus in Taurus is all about disrupting the soils of your concrete reality so new things can grow and be created. We have to till the soil in the Spring to activate new growth, so think of this transit in the same way. Uranus in Aries helped you find the right piece of land and soil after running around in circles and hitting lots of dead ends, so now it’s time to farm the land. Let’s not forget that Saturn will still be in Capricorn during this transit and we have the triple conjunction of Saturn, Pluto, and Jupiter coming up in 2020 which are all restructuring and reprogramming reality themes.

To Conclude…….

I know all of this sounds very dystopian, but Taurus teaches self reliance and self worth, so this will be a time for us to have faith that no matter how difficult things will be, we will come out alive stronger and more secure. Taurus ruled the golden age after World War Two- the 1950s, a time when everyone had wealth and glamour. Uranus is the great awakener, so the more aware we become of the injustices in the world, the more self reflection it provides. Get grounded and have no fear. Our values will be changing drastically, and that’s not a bad thing. Taurus wants nothing more than to indulge and relax, so I believe everyone will be redefining what happiness means to them. The more nutrient rich your own soul is, the less you will have to rely on the pesticides of the world.

XO & thanks for reading & sharing!

Chiron in Aries 2018-2027: The Heart is a Lonely Hunter

Chiron the Wounded Healer is an asteroid in our solar system that orbits between Saturn & Uranus. Orbiting between these two planets suggests that Chiron’s energies are strong and awakening.

Chiron was a healer in Greek Mythology, and an immortal centaur. One day he was struck by a poisoned arrow from Hercules, which Chiron taught him how to make. He lived with incredible pain until he offered up his immortality to Prometheus who we know later gave fire to mankind.

This story shows us that we are our own worst enemy at times, and surrender is absolutely key to living a pain free life. Chiron’s placement in our horoscope shows us where are deepest wound is in our life and at the same time, how we can heal all that’s unwell in our life. The wound is a symptom of something larger going on within.

Chiron in Pisces

Chiron was transiting Pisces from 2010 until April 17, 2018. This 8 year transit saw us delving deep into the mystical energies of Pisces. It was a time where a lot of people underwent some serious spiritual awakenings and it was during this period that we saw the “New Age” becoming more mainstream. Fanaticism, deception, and floods, tsunamis, and hurricanes were running rampant. On a personal level, Chiron in Pisces forced us to swim in the deep waters of our subconscious, to peel back the layers of our 3rd dimensional reality to understand that what we see is not true reality. Many people underwent serious spiritual transformations.

Chiron in Aries

Chiron will move in and out of Aries until 2019- so the real hard work of Aries will be felt more in 2019.

Aries is the sign of self. It is an independent, initiative, birthing, soul forging through into new life energy.

Collective Level

On a collective level, Chiron in Aries will bring out a more self serving energy similar to the “America First” thing going on in the United States. I predict there will be less solidarity as everyone will be in it for themselves. Aries greatest wound is learning to accept help from others, so on a global scale, I predict there will be more push backs against trade agreements and geographical agreements such as the European Union and NAFTA. I also predict there will be more wars, and the devastation caused by war will force everyone to take a hard look at themselves. I actually noticed as soon as Chiron entered Aries, a G7 summit was held, and a lot of Western movies were airing on the television. The Wild West is a perfect illustration of a Chiron in Aries energy, because it was  “an every man in it for himself time.”

Personal Level

On a personal level, Chiron in Aries will offer deep healing of our identity. We will come to learn so much more about who we are and what our place is in the vast world and universe. We will be questioning our purpose and existence asking the question “Who am I?”

Another large wound of Aries is self love. A soul born with a lot of Arian energy usually lacks self love. This is because with a lot of Aries energy comes a new incarnational cycle. How many of us are truly confident and comfortable when we are experiencing something for the first time? Most of us feel awkward and shy, or our Egos compensate and we become overly confident only to suffer a bruised ego later on when we fail miserably or don’t live up to our own expectations. There will be a lot of healing on this level. Self love first requires self trust which is something we will be confronted with a lot during these next 8 years. Aries wants you to experience a lot of new things, but in order to truly experience them, a certain level of trust has to be present, and so Chiron will be forcing you to become self reliant. It’s no longer about the Pisces escapism where during the past 8 years you might have retreated into your head a lot. No, Chiron in Aries will push you into a lot of new situations head on that will force you to deal with them. We all know that you learn the most about yourself when you are challenged and try new things. Remember, Chiron in Aries is all about the self “who am I?”

Chiron in Pisces helped us understand the spiritual side to life, but that information is useless unless we can use it for self empowerment which in turn will empower humanity. Chiron in Aries will take all that “spiritual stuff” and make us use it for self analysis. Questioning your place in the “spiritual industry” and the universe itself will be very strong. We are moving away from healing deep emotional wounds to healing deep action oriented wounds. How are you holding yourself back? Are you afraid of taking some steps? Do you care about what other people think of you too much? What do you really want to accomplish in your life?

Aries is the warrior so you will feel the push to go your own way during this transit. It’s a very independent sign, so at times you might feel very lonely, but getting in touch with yourself is the only way to repair this Chiron wound. The heart is a lonely hunter.

Chiron in Aries will confront issues around self-love, self-worth, and identity that will create a balm of self awareness that will be the cure to the Aries wound of an unconscious self.

Check out the song ‘I am the Warrior” by Scandal down below. I find it to be such an empowering song!

New Venus Cycle February 2018

The Venus Evening Star 2018

Venus became visible on February 7, 2018 and will remain visible until November 2018. Planets have the ability to appear invisible and visible depending throughout the year, depending on their path in the sky. Venus was invisible from the beginning of December 2017 until the end of January 2018 which made all Venusian things very difficult to manifest. Women were cranky, food lacked flavour, relationships were more challenging, clothes didn’t fit right, etc. With Venus becoming visible as an evening star, we can expect all of the above mentioned things to manifest much more easily.

Venus goes through 19 month phases where she rises in the daytime or she rises in the evening. Both phases bring fated events to women and affects every aspect of their lives. It’s important to know where your own natal Venus is placed in order to know what specific things in your life will manifest, however, because Venus rules women- every woman will experience the blessings of her energies during these next nine months.

This year, Venus will appear as an evening star in the sign of Aquarius. Aquarius is the sign of visions, inspiration, eccentricity, groups, and spirituality. We can expect women to be more spiritual as fated karmic events will happen, and you will find yourself wanting to socialize more and perhaps buy more crystals and oracle cards.

Venus in Aquarius as an evening star is the archetype of the Soul Sister. She wants to live life as a bohemian- spending the day lounging in a field of flowers while tufts of incense smoke impregnate the ether with philosophical ideas and artistic visions. On a more practical level, you will be much more inclined to want to join groups of like minded people and live your life on your own terms.

Find your tribe and enjoy the initiation into this mystical new time.

What we can expect with Venus as an Evening Star:

More Romance

Pleasant disposition

Food will be more flavourful

More interest in Fashion- you’ll want to wear high heels as opposed to flats

You will be more attractive

Less arguments amongst women- conversations will be smoother

You’ll be in the mood for shopping

If you would like to make the most of the powerful Venusian energies coming through this year, here are some folk magic tips to help you harness her special energies.

  1. Clean your house

Venus rules the house, so you will want to ensure it is neat and tidy. Vacuum, dust, mop, and declutter. It is believed that when the home is dirty, all Venusian things in your life also become dirty, meaning they have trouble expressing their positive qualities. Venus also rules mirrors (did you ever notice the glyph for Venus looks like a hand-held mirror?). Clean all of your mirrors and replace any that are scratched or dated.  Venus rules specifically the bedroom and the south-east corner of your home, so make sure those areas are sparkling!

  1. Wear Green and Pink

The colour green is ruled by Venus because she rules the heart and the heart chakra is the colour green. Green is also the colour of money and abundance along with  nature- all of which Venus rules. She also rules the colour Pink- colour of love and femininity. By wearing both of these colours (not necessarily at the same time) you are magnetizing all Venusian things to you.

  1. Wear a Copper Ring

Copper is an element ruled by Venus. Copper is highly conductive representing the receptive nature of the feminine. Copper is known to absorb water and fluids changing its form and colour which relates to the divine feminine. Women retain more fluids than men and we have the ability to synthesize our emotions much easier than men. Copper is abundant in female sexual organs (ruled by Venus) and is used up during sexual activity. The peacock- a bird sacred to Venus, owes its greenish plumage to its high Copper content. The bluish coppery colouring in crystals such as Malachite, Azurite, Peacock Ore, & Bornite are all Venus ruled and have a feminine sound to their names. Wearing a copper ring is believed to attract a partner and Venusian energies to the wearer. Wear a copper ring on your left ringer to bring forth a relationship.

  1. Put Sugar in Your Garden

Sugar like all other sweet foods are ruled by Venus along with gardens and flowers. Take a spoonful of sugar and bury it in your garden. Treat this as an offering to Venus and ask for Venusian blessings in your life when you do this. A Friday evening will be the best time to perform this mini ritual.

  1. Beauty Tricks

Venus rules the eyes as they are the most commented on feature for women. Wear bluish or greenish eyeshadow to help activate your own Venus. The Ancient Egyptians knew this, which is why they used crushed malachite (a copper based crystal) for eyeshadow. Place a piece of Rutilated Quartz under your pillow at night to make your hair more luxurious. Rutilated Quartz is also known as Venus’ Hair due to the golden needles found in this stone. The ancients believed that Venus had curly golden hair.

Remember to put your heart into all of these little tricks and Venus will reward you, as she loves receiving gifts.

Saturn in Capricorn December 21 2017-2020: Ain’t No Mountain High Enough!

Saturn is about to transition into the sign of Capricorn on December 21 and will remain there until 2020. Many have already been feeling this transition as Saturn- planet of karma is a very dense energy.  You will feel a lightness in the house where Saturn has been during the past 2.5 years. It will be as though a weight has been lifted off your shoulders. You will also have restructured that area of your life.

Saturn in Capricorn

Since Saturn is Capricorn’s ruler, Saturn will be comfy and cozy in this sign. He will be able to easily manifest and work his magic because his energies are very compatible with Capricorn. They both love structure, responsibility, hard work, and success.

The area of your life ruled by Capricorn will be undergoing many changes. Saturn in Sagittarius was about over hauling your belief system regarding the Sagittarius ruled area of your life. Saturn in Capricorn will now force you to act practically with this new found direction. Some questions you might want to ponder are:

What steps can I take to achieve my desired success?

What is the biggest responsibility I have to myself?

How do I need to mature?

What should I keep doing and what should I be stopping?

The Occult Sun

Saturn’s responsibility is to empower you to manifest the gifts of the house it rules. Many associate this planet with restrictions and limitations, but this only comes about when you resist its power of change. Restructuring things are always uncomfortable at first but the more you are able to surrender to it’s energies, the more successful you will be.

In ancient Astrology Saturn was known as the occult sun. This is because Saturn brings to light everything that is not working in specific areas of your life. It is a source of illumination. How can we improve our lives if we are not willing to confront the issues and problems that are hindering our progress?

magic and witch image

Put a Ring On It.

Saturn transits are always times of great awakenings. His rings bind you to the energies of the house he is moving through. This is why Saturn rules contracts and business alongside Capricorn. When the energies of the house have come full circle, he naturally moves on to the next area of your life. He is a slow moving planet that helps us focus on the present which allows us to make better decisions without taking unnecessary risks.

snow, winter, and black image

Conclusion

View Saturn in Capricorn as your time to mature and evolve your Capricorn area of life. You will reach the top of Capricorn’s mountain as long as you remember that slow and steady wins the race. Please keep in mind that we are entering a universal 11/2 year which is all about awakening and authenticity. Saturn in Capricorn will help you to recommit to YOU.

New Moon in Libra October 19, 2017- That’s Where My Demons Lie

Date: Thursday, October 19, 2017

Moonbeams: Authenticity & Inner-demons

The New Moon finds the Sun and Moon both in the sign of Libra. Libra represents the cosmic mirror- where we project ourselves onto others- the good, the bad, and the ugly. This NM will  show us how we have been unbalanced in our dealings with others. Have we been too self-sacrificing, or too self-indulgent? Either way, there are issues surrounding authenticity present at this lunation.

Uranus making an opposition to the New Moon is forcing us to approach our imbalances in a new way. We can do this by embracing our differences and respecting those who disagree with our choices.

The New Moon making a quincunx to the wounded healer Chiron suggests our own mirrors have become very distorted. The blinders are coming off. Perhaps we won’t like what we actually see, but Chiron is letting us know that we might have to confront old issues and pains around suppressing our true nature.

Jupiter and Mercury both being conjunct in Scorpio is helping us to bring back our power (Jupiter) by first bringing to the surface secrets buried deep within and processing them through logic (Mercury). Healing can only occur when we first clean up sewer (Scorpio) so to speak.

We can clearly see the themes from this NM in the media today. Seedy exposes around power, sexual abuse, and secrets- Harvey Weinstein being the prime example.

The major lesson the New Moon in Libra will offer us is to speak and live our truth to induce deep rooted healing. Venus the ruler of this moon is unaspected meaning her energies are free to do as they wish. Approach everything from a place of love as opposed to hate to help release your own inner demons. This will allow you to get back into your body and frequency without having uninvited visitors lurking in your underworld.

The song ‘Demons’ by Imagine Dragons perfectly captures the essence of this lunation. It’s about warning a significant other (Libra) about your demons. For so long things and feelings of ours were treated like demons- something evil and powerful. Guess what? Now as a collective we are experiencing a major exorcising of all of humanity’s demons.

Full Moon in Aries October 5, 2017: Putting Out the Flames

Moonbeams

Moon in Aries opposite Sun in Libra- you vs me

Moon opposite Mercury- feelings are not being communicated

Pluto Square Moon- Control and change is needed, but we feel nervous about having to make a change

Mars in Virgo conjunct Venus in Virgo- small details is what is needed now, gentle energy

Mars trine Pluto- taking small practical steps is the way to handle all of this fire

Mars square Saturn- we want the small steps to make fast changes, but Saturn is slowing us down with his methodology

Mars opposite Neptune- just because you can’t see it, doesn’t mean there isn’t work going on behind the scenes

A full moon in Aries always sets off fire alarms in the cosmos. Action for the sake of action is meaningless until inspiration is thrown into the mix. I get the feeling that for the past couple of months, on an individual level, we have been robotically living, meaning that our lives have been hectic and busy but missing joy and heartfelt ambition. When we are in the season of Libra, it becomes very obvious where we have been giving too much of ourselves at the expense of our own well-being. The Full Moon in Aries is going to push us to take small practical steps to change our lives. With the moon opposing Neptune this can be as simple as saying “no” or standing up for yourself. It is during fiery times that we come to appreciate the little things in life. It’s time to take a break and pay attention to whether your hectic lifestyle is for selfish reasons and if you are offsetting this by taking the time to help others? Venus in Virgo conjunct Mars in Virgo shows the need to want to express loving sentiments to others, and we must remember that when we serve others we are indirectly serving ourselves. The most important thing to keep in mind during this lunation is have you been self-serving or self-sacrificing lately? And is there a difference between the two?

New Moon in Virgo September 20, 2017: Solitary Witch

Date: Wednesday September 20, 2017

Moonbeams: Witchery & Surrending

Our New Moon in Virgo features 5 planets in Virgo with some auspicious configurations for magic.

Virgo is the sign of the Virgin which is all about being one with one’s self, and not needing anyone to define you. Virgo is a very solitary sign because it spends a great deal of time alone putting up walls of reserve and solitude in order to examine the divine details from a place of quietude. This encapsulates Virgo in a pristine crystalline structure that allows Virgo to view every situation from a place of clarity and reserve. Mercury, the ruler of Virgo is still conjunct Mars meaning that even Virgo’s are having trouble trusting information coming through at this time. Thought processes have quickened, but at the expense of intuition which is the cleaning agent of Virgo. Mars opposite Neptune is distorting our dreams and wishes, so the energy is very messy and in Virgo season, this is the equivalent to hell breaking loose. Saturn squaring the New Moon is putting pressure on the New Moon to clean up this confusing mess and the Moon is freaking out blaming itself for this kerfuffle.

If we go back to the basic archetype of Virgo, it’s one of solitude and quietude. Releasing blame and self critical behaviour is the best “cleaning agent” at this time. Mercury opposite Neptune is allowing us to weave spells of magic, to use affirmations and mantras to achieve the desired results. Having a heart to heart conversation with your guides and the universe will alleviate the pressures from Mercury and Saturn at this time.

It’s time to prune your broomsticks, get out your grimoires, and polish your crystals. The greatest lesson this New Moon has to offer us is that we are not the Be All and End All. There is no shame in asking the universe for help or calling upon higher forces for assistance. Most of us have been going through some major transformations this last little while do to the eclipses, and as a result we have found that we have been putting extreme pressures upon ourselves in order to get through the changes we have been experiencing. Part of the lesson of the Mercury Mars conjunction has been about releasing control. This is one of the hardest things for Virgo to accomplish, but surrendering control by calling upon higher forces is what will allow you to see the divine in the details as opposed to just a messy situation. We cannot forget that Virgo is a Mutable Earth sign which means that changes we co-create now will have a long lasting effect. This is why Virgo is the sign of the Witch. A witch is only a person who in her centredness invokes spirit to create change.  What a better time for magic?

An Interview with Molly Ringle Author of The Goblins of Bellwater

I am honoured to be a part of the Launch Events for The Goblins of Bellwater by Molly Ringle. Please see an interview with Molly about her enchanting book down below. This was one of my favourite reads so far this year and I cannot recommend it enough!

Q & A With Molly Ringle
The Goblins of Bellwater

How closely did you follow Christina Rossetti’s poem “Goblin Market” as a basis for the story?
I call this a book “inspired by” Rossetti’s poem rather than saying it’s “based upon” it, because I did veer from the poem a significant amount. I first read the poem a few years ago, and it intrigued me deeply. It’s evocative and strange, and, like a fairy tale, has many symbols and events that could be interpreted as having several different meanings. My assignment to myself was to use it as a jumping-off point for a modern paranormal novel, which would then go its own way as the plot required. What I kept from the
poem was the basic surface framework: we have a pair of sisters, grown but on the young side, one of whom becomes enchanted by eating goblin fruit in the forest and begins wasting away as a result, alarming the other sister into seeking a way to save her. Since Rossetti’s poem ends with a fast-forward to the women being “wives” and telling their children about their adventures, and since I wanted to write a paranormal romance anyway, I gave my modern sister characters a pair of men to get involved
with, in a double love story with eerie angles that I think match the eeriness of the original poem. Mind you, another interpretation of the poem is that the two women aren’t really sisters but lovers, which would be a different route to take and which I think would be lovely to see too!

For those of us who haven’t been there, what is Puget Sound like and why did you choose it as a setting for a retold fairy tale?
Puget Sound is a vast area of Pacific seawater, meandering into countless inlets and coves in skinny, deep fjords left behind by glaciers. Seattle and Tacoma and Olympia lie on its shores, on some of its largest bays, but it also has many wilder and more rural shores, especially on the western side where it backs up against a huge national forest on the Olympic Peninsula. That’s the region where my grandparents bought a vacation cabin decades ago, and where my family has been going for many vacations ever
since. I can safely say it’s one of my favorite places on Earth. In order to agree, you have to enjoy a cool, rainy climate and all the thick moss and ferns and mushrooms and huge evergreens such a climate produces, and I happen to love those things. Fairy tales, at least those from Northern Europe, almost all involve a deep dark forest. That’s where the faeries, witches, werewolves, vampires, elves, and all the other interesting beings live. Everyone knows that. I haven’t spent much time in the forests of Europe (alas! I will someday), but I reckoned our Pacific Northwest deep dark forests were more than adequate for housing supernatural creatures. My grandmother used to tell us that the mossy ruins of big tree trunks in the Puget Sound forests were the homes of Teeny-tinies, whom I always took to be faeries. So I set the story there, at the edge of the Sound, where saltwater meets woods and where the Teeny-tinies live.

What is the significance of the four elements (Earth, Air, Fire, Water) in this story?
The four elements are common fixtures in many ancient cultures, and have remained popular into the modern day. One of my favorite TV shows is Avatar: the Last Airbender, which uses the four-element framework brilliantly in its world-building. In reading up on faery lore for this book, I found that scholars often classify types of fae under the four elements, and since that appealed to me, I did the same. As one of the characters in The Goblins of Bellwater muses, there’s something human and emotionally real
about looking at nature that way, even if we technically know, thanks to science, that nature contains far more than four elements. And in my novel, the only way to break the goblin spells involves respecting and trusting each of the four elements, even when they’re at their most daunting.

Why do you think fairy tale and other myth and legend re-tellings are so popular right now?
I think they’ve always been popular! Maybe it’s a case of selection bias, because I personally have always been into ghost stories, fairy tales, and other supernatural lore, but it seems to me that human culture has never stopped telling such stories. As scholars of fairy tales will tell you, reading and writing about fantasy and the paranormal may look like escapism from reality, and sometimes I tell myself that’s what
I’m doing, but in truth these stories end up giving us all the useful lessons about real life that any good stories do: empathy, courage, love, respect for nature and community, and the importance of thinking fancifully and creatively.

What are the goblins like in this book?
In keeping with both the “Goblin Market” poem and the bulk of faery lore, they are mischievous and villainous. They laugh a lot, but they are decidedly laughing at you, not with you. They steal, and in particular they lust after gold. Like other fae, they enjoy making deals with humans, but humans would be wise not to enter into such deals, as the obligation tends to be heavier than it sounds at the outset. These goblins go further than merely them, too; they assault and sometimes steal away humans and turn
them into fellow goblins, and at other times enchant them into wandering unhappily in the woods until they waste away and die. Although the goblins are sometimes amusing in their level of witty rudeness, they are nearly all amoral and highly dangerous to get involved with. Only a scant few of them, who were once humans, manage to retain any human empathy. However, not all of the fae in my book are this cruel—the goblins are the worst of the lot! Others are willing to be quite helpful to humans as long
as they are respected in return.

What kind of magic system does this book involve?
In this book, my main characters are ordinary humans who can’t do any magic, but they become involved in the dealings of the fae realm, which is a bit like another dimension. It can be entered or glimpsed by summoning the fae (which includes goblins), who might or might not answer you. But you’re luckier on the whole if they don’t, because many of them are treacherous, and the realm itself is a wilderness containing many uncanny dangers. From the point of view of the human characters, the magical rules and the cultural norms of the fae are nonsensical, almost inexplicable, but since some of
these people have fallen under curses, they have to step in among those dangers and work with the rules as best as they can anyway.

What do you find most challenging in writing a novel?
At first, it’s usually getting to know the characters. I tend to start with a general idea of who they are, but then when I begin writing, I realize there’s too much I still don’t know about these people and therefore they aren’t coming across as real yet. It slows me down in the early stages while I take breaks to write notes in which I interview them and figure them out. I also have a perennial problem with writing antagonists. They have to do fairly awful things (being antagonists and all), but I still want them to feel like real people (or other beings), and therefore I have to get into their heads and figure out why they would feel justified in doing such a thing. It’s not a comfortable place for my mind to go. I suppose that’s why I gravitate more toward romance and lightheartedness: I much prefer spending time with those who love and laugh.

What are the easiest parts of writing a novel for you?
No part of the process is exactly easy. But sometimes lines will occur to me seemingly out of nowhere when I’m writing, and they’re perfect for the moment; or I’ll find my characters talking to each other in my head when I’m not writing. And I love those moments, because for them to have come to life in my imagination like that, it means I must have done sufficient groundwork in figuring out the world and the
characters. So although the groundwork is the hard part, it pays off and leads to easier parts later!

How did the writing of this novel, a fairly short stand-alone paranormal, compare to the writing of the Persephone trilogy?
It was far simpler! The Persephone’s Orchard trilogy had dual timelines, for one thing: the ancient world in Greece, and the reincarnations of those people in the modern day. For another thing, it had far more characters, both in original and reincarnated versions. And for any series, you need to have plot arcs that stretch over the whole series as well as smaller ones that get wrapped up within each volume; and you have to keep the whole thing internally consistent in terms of mood and themes and character personalities. It turned out exhausting enough that I didn’t want to write another series again anytime soon. So I picked The Goblins of Bellwater as my follow-up project: small cast, straightforward plot, and simple timeline. Most of the action takes place within about six weeks, in this small town, which is indeed a contrast to the millennia of world-spanning events covered in the trilogy!

Would you want to live in any of the fictional magical worlds you’ve created?
Strange though it might sound, I’d love to visit the Underworld as I wrote it in Persephone’s Orchard and its sequels. I made it much less scary, for the most part, than it is in traditional Greek mythology; and besides that, I love caves and glowing things, and definitely would be interested in a ride on a ghost horse as long as an immortal was keeping me safe during it. As for the fae realm we see in The Goblins of Bellwater, I’d like to catch glimpses of it, and of the fae themselves, but I wouldn’t want to actually enter
the realm. Too perilous!

What are you writing next?
One of the genres I love, and haven’t written enough of myself, is male/male love stories, so I’ve been working on a couple of those. One is contemporary, no magic or supernatural stuff, and it’s undergoing the feedback-and-revision stage right now. Another will involve a fae realm like that of The Goblins of Bellwater, only in a new location in the world, a fictional setting I’m creating. I stoll have to figure out how
this place works and what its magic system is like, in addition to getting to know the characters, but I’m excited about the idea and it has definitely taken root in my brain.

What are the most magical places you’ve been to in real life?
Puget Sound and its surrounding forests and mountains—which is why I chose the area for the enchanted lands in The Goblins of Bellwater. Also some of the forests and meadows in the Willamette Valley in Oregon, where I grew up. Oregon and Washington are both overflowing with natural beauty and I’m spoiled to have spent most of my life here. In addition, some places in Great Britain have felt quite magical to me, such as Tomnahurich (Hill of the Fairies) in Inverness, Scotland; or Old Town Edinburgh with its many close alleys and dark medieval buildings and brick-paved streets; or Westminster Abbey, not only because of its beauty and its many graves of astoundingly famous historical figures, but because when I first visited it as a 19-year-old, I’d never been in any building anywhere near that old before (having grown up in the Pacific Northwest), and it blew my mind.
