Saturn in Capricorn December 21 2017-2020: Ain’t No Mountain High Enough!

Saturn is about to transition into the sign of Capricorn on December 21 and will remain there until 2020. Many have already been feeling this transition as Saturn- planet of karma is a very dense energy.  You will feel a lightness in the house where Saturn has been during the past 2.5 years. It will be as though a weight has been lifted off your shoulders. You will also have restructured that area of your life.

Saturn in Capricorn

Since Saturn is Capricorn’s ruler, Saturn will be comfy and cozy in this sign. He will be able to easily manifest and work his magic because his energies are very compatible with Capricorn. They both love structure, responsibility, hard work, and success.

The area of your life ruled by Capricorn will be undergoing many changes. Saturn in Sagittarius was about over hauling your belief system regarding the Sagittarius ruled area of your life. Saturn in Capricorn will now force you to act practically with this new found direction. Some questions you might want to ponder are:

What steps can I take to achieve my desired success?

What is the biggest responsibility I have to myself?

How do I need to mature?

What should I keep doing and what should I be stopping?

The Occult Sun

Saturn’s responsibility is to empower you to manifest the gifts of the house it rules. Many associate this planet with restrictions and limitations, but this only comes about when you resist its power of change. Restructuring things are always uncomfortable at first but the more you are able to surrender to it’s energies, the more successful you will be.

In ancient Astrology Saturn was known as the occult sun. This is because Saturn brings to light everything that is not working in specific areas of your life. It is a source of illumination. How can we improve our lives if we are not willing to confront the issues and problems that are hindering our progress?

Put a Ring On It.

Saturn transits are always times of great awakenings. His rings bind you to the energies of the house he is moving through. This is why Saturn rules contracts and business alongside Capricorn. When the energies of the house have come full circle, he naturally moves on to the next area of your life. He is a slow moving planet that helps us focus on the present which allows us to make better decisions without taking unnecessary risks.

View Saturn in Capricorn as your time to mature and evolve your Capricorn area of life. You will reach the top of Capricorn’s mountain as long as you remember that slow and steady wins the race. Please keep in mind that we are entering a universal 11/2 year which is all about awakening and authenticity. Saturn in Capricorn will help you to recommit to YOU.

The Faerie Handbook: REVIEW

The Faerie Handbook is an enchanting read that takes the reader on a fantastical journey through faerie lore. If the faerie kingdom were to make a manual for new initiates- this would be it! The book is divided in to four sections: Flora & Fauna, Fashion & Beauty, Arts & Culture, and Home, Food, & Entertaining. Chapters include where to find fairies, common inhabitants, fairy houses, craft ideas, fashion, recipes, fairy history and so much more!

Reading The Faerie Handbook felt like a sprinkling of periwinkle blue fairy dust on my head from an invisible winged friend. You can’t help but get pulled into this magical realm of a book, making you feel as though you yourself are a faerie. Reading the pages felt as if it were consecrated by some great fairy queen in a thicket of a luscious forest in the early days of Spring. The renderings and pictures are charming and romantic which gives off a vintage vibe that suits the antique look of this book.

What I particularly love about this book is that it doesn’t come across as juvenile or kitschy- quite the opposite in fact. There is a discussion of the more menacing and sinister sides of the Faerie world which are not widely known. There is also a lovely balance between vintage and modern references to Faeries- including some obscure mentioning’s such as Tasha Tudor and Katerina Plotnikova.

There is an abundance of folklore for those interested in the history of Faeries and cutesier aesthetic pleasing information for lovers of the ethereal lifestyle. Quotes and literature references to the Faerie world weave a gold-spun thread throughout the book, luring the reader deeper and deeper into its vast kingdom.

This handbook is a love letter to those who find themselves drifting between two worlds- the mystical flower kingdom and our mundane reality. There are books about witches and vampires, but there hasn’t been such a comprehensive collection of faerie facts and information compiled into one book before. If you are a fan of Faerie Magazine, think of The Faerie Handbook as the flower crown of fairy books. The book is written with both a whimsical and poetic flair that pulls the reader into its silver lined pages. As the ultimate fairy tale, this handbook is a must read and should be in every fairy lover’s collection.

A big thank you to Faerie Magazine, Carolyn Turgeon, and Lily Lopate at HarperCollins for providing me with an advanced reader copy to review.

The Magic of Nature: Guest Post by Molly Ringle- Author of ‘The Goblins of Bellwater’

I can’t seem to stay away from stories of magic for long. I write real-world stories sometimes too—what the book industry calls “contemporary” fiction—but before long I tend to come back to writing a story with a supernatural element. I’ve written about ghosts, Greek gods, and, most recently in The Goblins of Bellwater, goblins and other fae.

These types of folklore have always fascinated me, even though I’ve slept many nights in supposedly haunted buildings and have never seen a ghost, and have wandered along in the most enchanting of woods and never seen a faery, and (regretfully) have never met a Greek god either. (Rather than this being any comment on their actual existence, I think I’m just unobservant and too much in my own head most of the time!) Still, something about these entities feels real to me. That isn’t surprising: after all, these are the kinds of stories humans have been telling for millennia. Every culture around the world has its ghosts, fae folk, nature spirits, and divinities, many of whom may mingle and overlap with each other depending on the local belief system.

What makes these beings interesting to me, and also what makes them excellent material for stories, is that they aren’t always good or evil. They come in a variety of behaviors (like humans), and their culture and rules may not always make sense to us (again, let’s be honest: like humans!).

In The Goblins of Bellwater, I started with the inspiration of Christina Rossetti’s poem “Goblin Market,” which tells the tale of a young woman cursed by goblins, and her sister who sets out to undo the spell. The poem makes it clear that goblins are, indeed, almost totally malevolent in the Victorian world these sisters live in, or at least mischievous. Folklore tends to agree on this assessment. Goblins are usually described as rude, thieving, and fond of causing trouble, so that’s how I wrote them. But in keeping with the notion that there are many kinds of fae in the world, I also included more benign or even helpful varieties of fae living in the forests of Washington state (where I set my version of the story), to whom the two sisters might be able to turn for help.

In doing so, they need to show proper respect for the forest and the waters—in fact, for all four of the elements: fire, water, earth, and air. I enjoyed looking around at our beautiful natural landscape here in western Washington and deciding which parts of nature would be best represented by which elements, and then giving each some faery spirits to bring them further to life. Seal-like fae swim in Puget Sound in my story, air fae in the shape of hummingbirds and moths fly through the night skies, earth gnomes and glowing creepy-crawlies dig into the soil, and fireweed fae and little wildfire-dwelling dragons emerge from the flames. It’s easy to feel fear when encountering any of them, but if my characters have demonstrated their trust and love for the land, they should know they will remain safe. That is, if they can stay out of the clutching hands of those tricksy goblins!

As my characters are reminded, we modern humans with our mostly indoor lives can easily forget how much we depend on nature. But it’s not only important to remember, it’s healthy for us. Scientific studies have found that being out in the natural world has a restorative, soothing, uplifting effect on mental health. All you have to do is go be with the trees and the fresh air, appreciate them, and of course protect them so that we can all go on benefiting from them. Sounds a little like magic, don’t you think?

New Energetic Cycle Begins!

Today the Sun and Mars are conjunct in Leo- kick-starting a new energetic cycle for the next 2.5 years. The Sun- the king of the cosmos, and Mars- the servant of the Sun, meet up once together every 2.5 years. This meetup can be likened to the King meeting with his servant to instruct him on how to do his bidding. Even though the Sun is the almighty and SOUL of us all, its light cannot permeate our existence without the push from Mars- planet of drive, will, motivation, ambition, and energy.

This conjunction collectively is all about shining your own light. It’s about being authentic, expressing your creativity, finding ways to enjoy life, and quieting the ego through surrendering to your unique self. Mars in Leo is about becoming your own authority (Sun). Mars will set ablaze those things in your life which need that extra push to fulfill the Sun’s wishes. The house that Leo rules in your natal chart will be the area of your life where a new energetic imprint will be left.

With both the King and Servant being in the loud and proud sign of Leo, don’t count on their meeting being a private one. The heat from this fiery meetup  will be felt very strongly.

Nodal Axis Change May 9, 2017: The New Renaissance

A rustling of silk taffeta can be heard, a artist adds a dash of crimson to his fresco, a lion roars in the Colosseum signalling a fight, marble statues of men litter the gardens, a gilded rebirth is on the horizon, the sparkling palace of your heart awaits an insurgence of creative embellishment.

On May 9, 2017 the nodal axis changes from Virgo/Pisces to Leo/Aquarius until November 7, 2018. The Virgo/Pisces axis was one of aligning to spirit through extracting the spiritual nutrients and discarding the toxins of illusions. The Leo/Aquarius axis is one of embracing the new version of ourselves un-apologetically. Leo represents creativity, self expression, individuality, and the inner child. Aquarius energy represents the other and the collective consciousness. This next year and half is asking us to let go of group conditioning and follow our hearts, wherever that may lead us. The Leo north node will be guiding us to embracing our individuality and uniqueness regardless of what others may think. The south node will be challenging this, luring us back into the cult of of what other people might think about our choices and decisions. Using discernment will be a huge help during what is a delicate time of me versus them. Remember, if every lion thought about what the animals thought of them, they wouldn’t be the kings and queens of the jungle. They own their title proudly, so embrace the throne and wear your crown proudly. If you find yourself becoming the cowardly lion, you will know that you aren’t listening to your inner roar.

I personally feel we will be entering a new renaissance during this next year and a half. The Renaissance of history was a time of building upon classical antiquity (Aquarius) but transforming the traditional into something new and creative (Leo). This will be a period where the old you will be left in the past in favour of your rebirth. On a collective scale I think creativity will flourish thanks to the innovative foundation of Aquarius. A more humanist approach to everything from politics, economics, to art will be much more self centred, hence Mr. Leo Donald Trump’s policy of “America First.”  It will be a tense time where selfishness at the expense of others will be seen in many major areas. Respecting other’s opinions without sacrificing yourself will be the challenge during this time. Coming out victoriously means that you turn others down with love (heart=Leo) as opposed to arrogance. The good thing is that the water bearer Aquarius will always be there to dampen the fiery flames of Leo if things do go unchecked. If you would like to see what you will be re-birthing in your life, check to see where the Leo/Aquarius axis falls in your natal chart.

We may not see the erections of basilicas, or the spread of religious iconography, but what we will see are more subtle examples of grandeur- self love, creativity, independence, and the pursuit of happiness………..and what more beautiful ornamentation could you ask for?

New Venus Cycle Begins!

March 25, Venus enters a new 19 month cycle also known as the rebirth of Venus! 8 days after today, Venus will become visible in the sky as a morning star, which will mark new values, new ideas about relationships and new experiences with love and art during these next 19 months. This is about what YOU WANT as opposed to what others expect of you.

Many Astrologers have been discussing the Venus pentagram and or flower which is a complicated journey that Venus travels, marking important evolutionary events in a person’s life. What’s important to note is that this new cycle begins at 4 degrees Aries, so check to see where 4 degrees Aries falls in your chart as this area of your life will experience new beginnings during this 19 month cycle. Venus will be making her next point at 19 degrees of Capricorn on January 9, 2018, when she enters Scorpio, conjunct Pluto. Check to see where 19 degrees of Capricorn falls in your chart as well, because this area of your life will see a major transformation.

Audrey Hepburn and her film ‘Sabrina’ have been my muses during our Venus RX cycle, as she was born with Venus in Aries RX (like myself). The above gif marks the point in the film when Sabrina returns from her stint in Paris, as a sophisticated woman who knows what she wants. Venus’ transformation from an evening star to a morning star is asking us to ponder this question, “if we were given the opportunity to leave the world for a while and return as an upgraded version of ourselves, who would you be, and what would that look like?” Would you be a spiritual guru? An artist? A humanitarian? Rise like the star you are, and get ready for a new adventure!

Today is an excellent day to set some new intentions regarding Venusian things. Now that we are in the halfway point of our Venus Retrograde cycle, some things probably need to be reworked in your life when it comes to what’s important to you. Write a love letter to yourself, or to your ideal partner. Pay attention to what comes up for you during these next few days. Be creative, be bold, and start a new self-care practice if you can! Keep all of this in mind, when Venus conjuncts our New Moon in Aries coming up on March 27-28, which will ask us to try something new.

I’m wishing you all a beautiful heartful Venus cycle!

Venus Retrograde in Aries: Sabrina

Time- March 4, 2017-April 15, 2017

Energy- Re-evaluating our values and needs, honouring ourselves

Tips- Look back to 2009 when Venus was RX in Aries to reflect on lessons learned

“I might as well be reaching for the moon,”  laments Audrey Hepburn’s character in the film Sabrina. Her character only wants the man she has been longing for to fall in love with her. This is the shadow side of Venus RX. When Venus turns RX we might be longing for more Venusian things in our lives, wanting a relationship, possessions, and for many, opportunities will present themselves. However, this is a trick Venus likes to play. Temptation. What Venus RX is really teaching us, is to value ourselves, but in order to do that we must get clarity on what our values and needs are. In the film, Sabrina believes that she needs to become a sophisticated woman in order to charm the man of her dreams, David Larabee. She goes away to Paris to cooking school and comes back as a Venus archetype- feminine, charming, ready for love, and assertive. Her time away made her realize that she does not need to run away from life and love, she must be the initiator. Venus RX is a time of rebelling, reviewing, re-evaluating, and reliving. Her time in Paris is a time in Paris for us all. As Sabrina herself said “Paris is the way to change your outlook.” This is the time to live life by your own rules and transform yourself by honouring your own needs, and through doing that, can foster beautiful intimate relationships.

The Venus RX paradox is one of looking to its polarity for the missing link. The second house which is ruled by Taurus which is in turn ruled by Venus, is the house of our values. If we look to its polarity we find the 8th house, of bonding and shared values. We can only learn what our values are when we are in exchange with others. The same goes for the 7th house ruled by Libra and Venus, the house of partnerships, we look to its polarity in the 1st house, the house of self. Once again, the only way we can transform ourselves is through our interactions and relationships with others. Sabrina transformed herself into a sophisticated woman when she saw David only interacted with sophisticated women.

Venus RX in Aries marks a new cycle of transforming our desires and needs. Aries, the first house once again is about beginnings and our self. We look to the 7th house its polarity, the house of relationships, we look to the 7th house for feedback (Libra). Every relationship and interaction is a mirror of ourselves. Sabrina felt the need to change everything about herself in order to make David fall in love with her. However, in the end she fell in love with David’s brother Linus, the man who was secure in himself from the beginning, and the man she thought could never fall in love with anyone, and that’s when Sabrina realized, all she had to do was be herself in order to finally fall in love.

Venus Rx in Aries teaches us to not be afraid to be ourselves, to honour ourselves, but not in a selfish way. Venus RX in Aries in its shadow is the loner, but in its greatest power is the warrior goddess, the person who is not afraid to live life and to love, because it is those experiences that offer us the most valuable lessons. Our exchange with others is what gives us feedback on our values all the time, initiating our evolution.

As Sabrina says in the movie “I have learned how to live, how to be in the world and of the world, and not just to stand aside and watch. And I will never, never again run from away from life. Or from love, either.”
