So it’s that time of the year again when I realize just how out of sync I am. I don’t like to use the phrase “out of shape” because I have re-shaped and sculpted many areas of my life this year, so for the first time I am proud to be a square peg not wanting to fit in a round hole.
Exercise is very important to me, and while I am not athletic, staying active is critical for bringing my mind, body, and spirit back into “sync” with one another. Saturn is sitting at 29 degrees Sagittarius right now which is my 6th house of health. With Saturn making himself at home in this area of my life for the past 2.5 years, I have witnessed the transformation of my physique due to some intense exercising that Saturn forced me to do. I slimmed down, got toned, and had a very consistent work out routine. The past few months I have neglected this as I was going through a pretty emotional time and wanted to focus on other things. Now that Saturn is just about to leave my 6th house I have re-dedicated myself to fitness.
We can use Astrology to develop a fitness plan. Using the Moon cycle is one of the easiest ways to do this. For instance- 3 days after the New Moon is a great time to start exercising. I’ve noticed that most people start working out during a Full Moon due to feeling extra heavy and gross from the water retention. Looking to see what sign the Moon is transiting can give you some clues as to what types of physical activity you should be partaking in. For example; when the Moon is transiting Aries, Leo, or Scorpio- intense cardio is more effective due to the pulse pounding energy of Mars. When the Moon is transiting Cancer or Pisces- aquatics or dance are more favourable.
Using the Moon is just one simple way to make the most of the astro energies. But in order to see which type of activity is most in alignment with your blueprint- we have to look at the 6th house and its planetary ruler.
The 6th House in Astrology is the area that rules your health. Interestingly, the 6th house is also a major stress point in the natal chart because it shows you what your stress triggers are since the 6th house also rules your working conditions. Numerous studies have shown that exercise is a great way to relieve stress but more importantly, how you treat your body is a reflection of the health of your mind. Let’s a take a closer look
Aries 6th House- Martial Arts, Intense Cardio, Boxing
Taurus 6th House- Gardening, Walking
Gemini 6th House- Work our routines that have variety, Biking
Cancer 6th House- Aquatics, Working Out at Home, Core Training- Pilates, Belly-Dancing
Leo 6th House- Running, Jogging, Professional Athlete or Personal Trainer
Virgo 6th House- Housework/chores, Choreography
Libra 6th House- Shopping! Walking, Group Workouts, Ballroom Dancing
Scorpio 6th House- Cardio, Extreme Sports, Sex
Sagittarius 6th House- Outdoorsy things, Hiking, Horseback Riding, Stretching-Pilates
Capricorn 6th House- Marathons, Training, Pilates
Aquarius 6th House- Team Sports, anything different- Soul Cycle, Yoga, Gymnastics
Pisces- Aquatics, Dance, Yoga
*Please note that having planets in your 6th house will also add a layer of meaning to your house. If Venus is in your 6th house- look at the exercises for Taurus and Libra as well.
If you are a more advanced Astrology lover, than also look at any signs on the cusp of your 6th house, and any aspects beings made to your house and its lord. I have noticed that in many cases, the 6th house cusp shows you the type of exercise you are more naturally drawn too.
Also pay attention to your Rising Sign as this describes your physical appearance. For example, if you have Mars on the Ascendant, then you need very martial activities in combination with your 6th House in order to build up your muscles and maintain your lean (Mars) appearance.
If you have any insecurities about your body- look to your 7th House which is your Descendant. This will show you how others actually see your body and what your true physique looks like. For example, if you are a Cancer Rising, you might feel self conscious about your body specifically your tummy area. However, your Capricorn descendant actually means you are quite svelte and others view you as being lean.
