Carl Llewellyn Weschcke By Melanie Marquis: REVIEW

I was super excited to have the opportunity to read and review an ARC of this book because I heard about it a few months ago and knew that I had to read it. As a long time reader and fan of Llewellyn, I desperately wanted to learn about their origins and marvelous history. I was also curious to learn more about the person behind the name and this book definitely did not disappoint. I was amazed at the depths of this book. It’s truly a biography of a publishing house and the wizard behind the curtain.

Weschcke was such an interesting character with an incredible back story. I could see bits of myself in him as I’m sure most Llewellyn fans could as well. We magical book-worms share many things in common, one of the main ones being the love of spiritual books!

Marquis does a brilliant job at delving deep into the life of Weschcke from his childhood, pharmaceutical background, his NAACP years, and his acquisition of the Llewellyn publishing house. It was interesting to read about the New Age in the 1960s and 1970s at its height and all of Weschcke’s other magical ventures. Marquis discusses his failures and shortcomings equally as she does his successes.

The passion for sharing occult information with the world is evident in this biography and brings a human element to what has become the number one publishing house of the mind, body, spirit genre. The family like feel of this company was evident from the very beginning as was its mission to educate and celebrate the New Age. The attributes I associate with Llewellyn today such as quality and expertise have their origins with Weschcke and all of the trailblazers who have been apart of the Llewellyn family from the start.

Each chapter takes a close look at the many different incarnations of Llewellyn that often responded to and inspired the need and desire for occult information over the decades. This was helmed by Carl Weschcke whose intuition and passion for education was the North Star of this company.

Readers will appreciate the quotes from many Llewellyn authors and staff, as well as the intimate look at Carl Weschcke the grandson, son, husband, father, and boss.

Llewellyn is so much more than a publishing house. It is a relic with a history as constellated as the starry skies, and a founder as magical as its books.

31 Day Blog Challenge- Day 7: 11 Things That Feed My Mind, Body, & Soul

1. Classical music/period drama soundtracks

Classical music moves me Everytime I listen to it. I like many different composers so it’s hard to choose just one. I also really enjoy listening to period drama soundtracks. One of my favourites is the soundtrack from the film ‘Far From The Madding Crowd.’ Check out one of my favourite classical piece down below.

2. Anything Lavender

I think I was first introduced to Lavender as a baby. As I got older I started using the essential oil to help with falling asleep. I also use Lavender soaps. I’ve been growing lavender for about 15 years and dream of walking in fields of it. I also love decorating with it- have you seen lavender wreaths? Ugh, they’re perfect!

3. John William Waterhouse paintings

I have 2 small prints by Waterhouse and they are my most favourite pieces of art I own. His paintings are richly coloured and super romantic, as is most Pre-Raphaelite art. I find myself imagining what is beyond the edges of the canvas. This is the print I have called ”The Scent of the Rose.’ I love the sensuality that’s captured in this painting.

4. Hungarian mushroom soup

This is my favourite soup! I grew up being exposed to quite alot of different Hungarian foods because of the cultural connection to my heritage. One day my Mom found this recipe on Pinterest and we’ve been eating it ever since! I honestly think the best part of it is the Dill. Yum!

5. Cozy blankets

Ok, if you are Canadian like me, having a few cozy blankets is mandatory. I spent this past Winter bundled up in one with the woodstove crackling, a cup of hot chocolate steaming away, while a good movie played on the TV. So the Danes might have Hygge, but I think every Canadian can appreciate the cozy blanket.

6. 19th century occult books

I prefer reading old occult books over new ones because they knew so much more way back then. I currently read them through online librairies. I just can’t get enough of them. We have been so brainwashed into thinking people were dumb in the 19th century. After reading many old books, I can tell you that they were anything but dumb. I think the 21st century will be the most dumb downed century of all time.

7. Ralph Lauren Romance perfume

I only have a sample of this perfume because I don’t really wear scented things, but it’s velvety woodsy floral combo is heavenly. I think it would be my signature scent if I was a perfume kinda gal.

8. John Galliano’s designs for Dior

I’m a huge fan of Galliano and fashion has never been the same without him. His work for Door was extravagant, theatrical, historical, sumptuous, and he put on one hell of a show. One of my favourite collections he did was his Balkan inspired one from 2006 I believe. His cultural references were spot on but he of course infused it with his signature couture drama.

9. Accordion

This is my favourite instrument. When I hear it I feel joyful and alive. If my soul could make a sound it would be the sound of the accordion. This is an accordion duet by two Russian players that always makes me want to dance!

10. Magical realism books

One of the only genres I like is magical realism. This genre takes an ordinary reality and infuses it with magic. A book that I have read over and over again belonging to this genre is ‘The Lollipop Shoes’ by Joanne Harris. It is the sequel to her first book ”Chocolat’ which was also made into a movie starting Johnny Depp. I would highly recommend checking it out!

11. Old world storybook aesthetic

New Moon in Taurus May 15, 2018: The Rosebud

Moonbeams: Find your happiness. You will bloom when the conditions are right.

The New Moon in Taurus is special for a few reasons. Firstly, on the day of the NM Uranus moves into the sign of Taurus until 2026 which is going to detabilize our sense of security. Check out my blog all about this here. Secondly, Mars is at the final degree of Capricorn which feels like a do or die situation. Thirdly, Mars is squaring Uranus which is amping up the voltage. Let’s take a closer look shall we.

“The day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” – Anais Nin

This year’s Taurus New Moon lacks the cushy stability it’s known for. It’s as though the other planets and energies are hijacking the security that we usually feel with Taurean moons.

Mars is squaring Uranus during this NM making us feel restless and ruthless. Remember that Mars at 29 degrees feels like jumping off the bridge just because he’s desparate for a change. Be careful not to take any foolish risks. It’s best to channel this intense energy through exercise and movement. Taurus is a sensual sign so there is a major test we are being handed from the universe. How grounded can you be admist chaos?

Mars and Pluto are making a trine to the NM can bring up some deep seated emotions leading to angry outbursts or suppressed sadness. On a positive note great healing can be accomplished in the two week span of the NM. Mars & Pluto trining the NM brings Venus the ruler of the NM into the mix as well. Bringing these three planets together will help us to understand where we are devaluing ourselves. As whatshisface once sang, “every rose has its thorn” but does that make the Rose ugly or does it simply show that beauty doesn’t come without pain?

Venus the ruler of the NM is is Gemini which is an intellectual placement. We have the ability to rationalize and make sense of everything that”s going on. It’s a nice relief from all of the intensity.

To go back to the Anais Nin quote above, there is a frustration that has been present for a while now. We have three planets in Capricorn- Saturn, Pluto, & Mars. It feels as though time has stopped moving and we want to forge ahead. It feels incredibly stagnant and slow which is driving everyone crazy. We are ready to blossom because it’s no fun being a bud anymore. Flowers know that when the conditions are right, they will bloom. Uranus moving into the sign of Taurus is agitating the soil. Emotions are stirring at this NM which will activate new growth. Flowers value their conditions because without them- sunlight, water, soil, shade, they would never survive. Instead of resenting your current situation, look to nature- Taurus’ domain for guidance. Appreciate the beauty that surrounds you, love your struggles, and be grateful for slowness….afterall, Roses only bloom for a few short weeks. Value your time as a bud, because that will determine the beauty of your bloom.

Did you know Roses are ruled by Taurus?

🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞

My earliest magical memory was visiting a new age shop called ‘Odyssey Books & Resource Centre.’ It was a local shop that my Mom had frequented looking for Astrology & health books. When I was around 8 she took me to the shop for the very first time and I have been visiting it ever since.

It was at that time that the first Harry Potter film was released and I was a huge fan! Going to ‘Odyssey’ was like stepping into Diagon Alley. The shop itself is in a Germanic inspired courtyard which is also home to a dance studio, an icecream shop, a German restaurant, a dress shop, and fur shop, & so much more. There is a purple and gold celestial banner outside and you can smell floral musky incense wafting outside into the parking lot. It’s the store’s signature scent that has sunk into the pages of its books and attaches itself to your clothing, intoxicating everyone who comes in.  Here’s a picture of it down below.

Stepping inside made me feel like I was in the world of Harry Potter. The walls were lined with tall bookshelves packed full of all sorts of obscure titles that would feed any new ager’s soul. Every square inch of this store had something to see and touch. Crystals, incense, candles, jewelry, trinkets, odds & ends, wands, statues…….all that was missing was Mr. Ollivander himself. Over the years many customers have complained that the store is cluttered, but I feel it adds to the authentic aesthetic it has going on. There’s so much to see that you can only tackle one section at one time.

LOUPE_odysseybookstore9___Gallery

During my first visit to this shop I purchased a white stuffed bunny wearing a celestial garb and pointed hat. I named him Merlin and I had him for years. He was a much complimented fixture in my starry themed bedroom. I remember leaving the store after my visit feeling awe inspired and a bit more magical.

Although there have been a number of new age shops that have opened in the area, including one I briefly worked at, Odyssey has always been my favourite and go to for crystals and books. Last year they celebrated their 20th anniversary and I am hopeful that they will be around for another 20!

I never get tired of visiting this shop. There is always an excitement that precedes my visit and an even more excited feeling that succeeds it when I leave with my little purple bag full of all sorts of goodies. Their items have helped me along in my spiritual journey, and if it wasn’t for their books and crystals, I am not sure what and where I would be?

I have been shopping at the Odyssey for 17 years, and what a magical 17 years it has been.

Blessed Be!

Beltane: The First Heartbeat

From approximately April 28-May 5 Pagans celebrate the Celtic fire festival known as Beltane. It is held at the halfway point between the Spring Equinox & the Summer Solstice. This day marked the time of year when farmers would bring their cattle out to pasture.

Rituals would be performed that would involve lighting bonfires as the flames and ashes were deemed to be protective. People would walk around the bonfires with their cattle and sometimes leap over the flames. These gatherings would be followed by a feast. Homes were decorated with yellow Mayflowers due to their fiery colouring. Beltane is a spring time festival that celebrates the fertility of nature. Thus, pagan folk would consumate their love in the meadows and woods under the light of the moon. It was also a festival of sexual freedom, therefore promiscuity was celebrated.

The name Beltane is old Gaelic for “bright fire.” We see similar etymology in the Slavic languages where the word byelo means White as in to purify.

The Astrology of Beltane

Beltane occurs at 15 degrees of the sign Taurus. 15 degrees in Astrology is known as a critical degree because it represents the half way point in a zodiac sign (there are 30 degrees in each sign). 15 degrees is therefore a peak of energy….a strong burst of the Taurus archetype.

Beltane is opposite the other Pagan holiday Samhain which is commonly celebrated at Halloween. This festival celebrates the thinning of the veil between worlds. It’s a time of ancestral worship and purging. Beltane, representing the other half of Samhain also experiences a thinning of the veil. It’s less to do with communicating with the dead, and more about communicating with the cosmos, the divine feminine.

The symbol for Taurus is the Bull- a creature of virility & aggressiveness- typical qualities we associate with the masculine. Oddly enough, Taurus is an ultra feminine sign ruled by Venus, so why the Bull as her symbol?

The Bull was sacred in Egyptian, Assyrian, & Crete cultures. The constellation was named as such between 4000 and 2000 BC when the ancients noticed fertility began when the constellation was rising in the evening at the time of year that the Nile receded far back enough that Oxen could plough the land. The Bull features in many mythologies which I recommend you research further in order to grasp the full archetype of Taurus.

The Taurus bull head looks like the female reproductive system, confirming once again the connection between creation and Taurus.

The First Heartbeat

The Star Aldebaran is found in the Taurus constellation at 15 degrees- the degree of Beltane. To the ancient Babylonians (the first Astrologers) this star was the luckiest star, representing wealth and a beautiful family life. This is why Beltane is celebrated on May 1st when the Sun in Taurus reached 15 degrees.

If you have been following my analysis of the Pagan sabbats on my blog, you will know that I have discussed these holidays in terms of frequencies. To recap, there was a frequency that was released at the Winter solstice that was encoded with our blueprint for the upcoming year. That frequency becomes seeded at Imbolc which is the metaphysical cosmic conception. At Ostara we celebrate pregnancy- we are creating new life that will be given birth to 9 months later at the Winter Solstice. Beltane is 6 weeks from Ostara. We know that 6 weeks into a pregnancy, a heartbeat can be detected. This is the realization that we are carrying life within us. It is the reality that our creation is in fact alive! It’s always an emotional time for the parents to hear their baby’s heartbeat for the first time because it is confirmation that their love has indeed created another human.

Faeries are believed to dance around under the moonlight on Beltane which is why this holiday has a magical quality to it. Is there anything more magical than creating life?

If we take Beltane as experiencing the first heartbeat, what we are really celebrating during this holiday is life and creation. It’s in May that we begin to see nature waking up from the long dark Winter, and it gives us hope and excitement knowing that life is ours to create. I have noticed with many people that the period from January-April are always stagnant periods because we are metaphysically accumulating a lot of energy for the remainder of the year- we are energetically preparing ourselves for this frequency that we are carrying.

Milk & Honey

The Sun meets with the Milky Way at Beltane- connecting our consciousness with the stream of souls of the Milky Way. It is called the Milky Way because it is believed that it is the milk of our universe- the nurturing elixir that women use to feed their babies. In astrotheology, the Milky Way is Mother Mary. It is believed that when the Sun meets with the Milky Way at Beltane, souls are able to penetrate the womb of women who are expecting. This is why many believe that it’s at 6 weeks when the fetus has a soul.

The Maypole which is an important symbol of Beltane represents the Axis Mundi- the celestial pole that connect us to the heavens. The pole is an obvious phallic symbol, however I like to think of it as a column of enlightenment and the ribbons representing the celestial bodies. The crossing of the ribbons represents the meeting of the Sun with the Milky Way, the celebration of the stream of consciousness from the heavens that is now descending upon earth.

Celebrate Beltane

Beltane reminds us to enjoy ourselves and to celebrate the union of life and love. We experience the most profound intimacy with the universe when we are able to fully surrender to its magnificence. Taurus knows how to celebrate beauty and recognizing the beauty around us creates a conduit of energy connecting our physical world with the spiritual world…..this is why Beltane represents the thinning of the veil.

At Beltane we celebrate the masculine and feminine coming together. It’s a time to celebrate who you are unapologetically. Write down a list of your deepest wishes and bury it in your garden in a wish box. Visualize your wishes growing true.

We celebrate the union of the feminine and masculine, for without it, there would be no heartbeat.

Your Soul Planet

Your Soul Planet is the planet in your natal chart with the highest degree excluding the North Node and South Node of the moon, and the outer planets- Neptune, Pluto & Uranus. It is believed that a person becomes the living archetype of this planet. A person’s entire life will be largely influenced by this planet-physical appearance, personality characteristics, karmic evolutionary intention, and disease and illness. In Astrology we view the natal chart as the cosmic blueprint of a soul’s experience in this lifetime,  therefore we view the chart holistically. This does not mean that the other planets and asteroids have no impact on a person’s life. Everything works together. It is a divine system. The Soul Planet just so happens to contain the largest amount of frequencies that will align you to your predestined path.

The Planetary Dimensions

According to various sources including Edgar Cayce and Theosophists, as the soul enters the universe through the galactic centre, it first travels to the star Sirius- the brightest and largest planetary body in our galaxy to receive its divine path. Some believe these are where the Akashic records are stored. From there the soul enters our visible Sun and enters Earth.

As the soul descends through the planetary dimensions, it gathers frequencies from each dimension. It will collect the most frequencies from a specific dimension of a planet which becomes one’s Soul Planet- the planet with the highest degree. Planets in your horoscope with high degrees… 24 degrees and up showcase very strong karmic implications of those planets. Think of it as the planet reaching maturity, consolidation, strength, and wisdom.

The following image is based on Aristotle’s depiction of the planetary dimensions

aristotelian_cosmo

The following information about each Soul Planet that I’m about to share is from a variety of sources that I have compiled since stuyding the Soul Planet. I am using information primarily from Edgar Cayce, Theosophy, Vedic Astrology, and Babylonian Astrology.

The Soul Planet goes by a couple of different names

Vedic Astrology: Attmakaraka

Babylonian Astrology: Almuten

Your Soul Planet

Read about your Soul Planet down below once you have found it in your natal chart. If you’re not sure how to find it, you can comment your birth details and I can find it for you.

**Watch what your Soul Planet does in the sky. Every movement will have a very important impact upon you.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

Sun– If the Sun is your Soul Planet you have a life of tears and laughter. There is something innately royal about you- dignified & stoic. If you were born in the daytime the Sun is your Soul Planet, however if you were born at night and the Sun is still the planet with the highest degree in your chart, the Moon will have more impact on your life as the Moon reflects the light of the Sun. You are a bright soul that radiates goodness wherever you go. However, even the slightest negative emotion will radiate, so be careful that you don’t push people away with your strong energy. One of your greatest lessons is to learn to overcome your ego and to learn humility and compassion. Your Father or Father figure will play a key role in helping you evolve and fulfill your purpose.  Your reptuation precedes you and people can read you like a book. You tend to view things on the surface level and some might even think you are superficial. You also take yourself too seriously and can have a feeling throughout your life of missing something.

Moon– If the Moon is your Soul Planet you are social, caring, empathetic, psychological, & strong. It is best to have a Moon Soul Planet if you were born at night because this will give you royal qualities. If you were born during the day, your Moon will be weaker. You can become easily influenced by other people, susceptible to psychic attack, & you can be very angry and hateful. You are deeply connected to the emotional body and will learn how to navigate your emotional waters. You will be very connected to all that the Moon represents: your mother, homeland, ancestry, food, and intuition. If your Moon is in good dignity, you will be soft spoken, graceful, and compassionate. If your Sun is in a much lower degree than your Moon or if it is the planet with the lowest degree in your chart, you will feel disconnected from your Mother, and your parents may not have had a good marriage. Following the phases of the moon and taking baths will help you to cleanse unwanted energies that you pick up during the day.

Mercury– If Mercury is your Soul Planet this is considered one of the most rare soul planets. Your Mercury must be visible according to the heliacal phases of the planets. Basically, check to see if your Mercury is conjunct the Sun. If it is, it will become invisible…unfortunately most people have Mercury conjunct the Sun because Mercury can never be more than a few degrees away from the Sun. You are very inquisitive, intellectual, studious, versatile- you can actually possess the qualities of all the Soul Planets. You are a mediator and know how to make money. One of your karmic challenges that you will have to overcome will involve the truth. You must learn to be pure and honest in your communication. Your pineal gland is highly activated during your life allowing you to merge your soul with the holy spirit or God or source. You must watch out for self-aggrandizement because this can inhibit the strength of your mind.

Venus– If Venus is your Soul Planet, you possess the luckiest soul planet. You are friendly, soft, magnetic, attractive, and always seem to get things for free. You can advance in your career through your friends and partners. You have a very predictable life that will bless you with material comforts. Remember, Venus’ path in the sky makes a pentacle- the symbol for Earthly pleasures. You need to work on your self-discipline because you can be too lax. You need pushes in order to get your life going. The thymus gland is the gland which will be strongly activated during your life. It is a lymphatic organ of the immune system located behind the sternum. When the thymus gland is activated, you find yourself sympathetic, and seeking love, beauty, and music. You will also be strongly attracted to the opposite sex. One of your most important karmic lessons will involve the process of creation and sexual relationships. Learning not to abandon projects and people when the lust wares off will ensure that you keep your integrity intact which will help you to understand the spiritual process of creating something from start to finish.

Mars– If Mars is your Soul Planet you are driven by anger. You are unpredictable, & you will change your mind often. You are a self-made person- you cannot depend on others during your lifetime because you will be repeatedly let down. You will have troubles with your boss. You hate rigidity and find yourself getting into trouble quite easily. If you were born at night, Mars is weaker and you can find yourself feeling sexually inferior to others. It will feel as though your life is hanging on by a thread. Everything for you is do or die in this lifetime. If you were born during the daytime, Mars will take on more of a destructive force in your life. The Adrenal glands will be strongly activated during your life. It is believed that the adrenal glands are the storehouses of our karma. This means that you will encounter many karmic people and situations in your life. It is fair to say that you are not here to initiate a new karmic evolutionary cycle. You are here to repay the debts from your previous lifetime, more than paving a new path. You will learn how to control your warrior like power, aggressions, and urges. You will need to cultivate self control. You also have a very high opinion of yourself which makes you very courgaeous.

Jupiter– If Jupiter is your Soul Planet you are morally and ethically the best out of all the Soul Planets. You want to save the world, and help everyone you can. You love people and people love you. You are generous and very lucky- lucky in the spiritual sense so you will be able to easily attract good karma to you. You most likely come from an affluent and harmonious family. If you were born at night, you will possess more setbacks than someone born during the day with Jupiter soul planet. The pituitary gland will be strongly activated during your life. It is the master endocrine gland in the body located at the base of the brain. Awakening will come to you in this lifetime. Meditation and prayer are highly favourable because you have the ability to access God directly. You possess high mindedness and an affinity for large groups. You come to Earth with universality and nobility. You have grand ideas and notions. One of your greatest karmic lessons will involve acceptance. An imbalanced Jupiterian energy looks down upon those who are less knowledgeable and capable. Keep in mind that your enemies are your gurus, as are the homeless, and sick. The Jupiter planetary dimension is the most sacred dimension at is is believed that the energy here allows one to experience atonement. We can relate the pituitary gland to the crown charka. When this chakra is balanced, it assists the other chakras in aligning.

Saturn– If Saturn is your Soul Planet, you are withdrawn, suspicious, hold grudges, don’t like to give and lonely. You are a person of your word, talk slowly without emotion, you have a big frame, and you don’t like to smile or laugh. If you were born during the day, Saturn will soften. If you were born at night, you will be more harsh. The gonads will be strongly activated during your life. It is believed that prior to incarnating on Earth, the soul spent time in what Christians call “purgatory” a place of cleansing, purification, and starting over. A soul may choose to banish itself to the realm of Saturn if it needs to be reborn. Metaphysically, a soul may choose to start over when it cannot overcome its karmic lessons after trying countless times to no avail. We build up our karma over eons, so going into the Saturn dimension prior to incarnating erases all previous attempts. This is why the gonads are associated with this realm. Sex is viewed as a basic primal instinct that is often abused. A Saturn soul planet gives one an inner sense of frustration and naivety during life, but also an incredible gift of perseverance and strength. You understand suffering more than the other planets, so you come to Earth with a great responsibility to ease human suffering. This does not mean you are meant to end wars and poverty, but volunteering your time in a shelter or working in hospice care will greatly reward you.

Chiron in Aries 2018-2027: The Heart is a Lonely Hunter

Chiron the Wounded Healer is an asteroid in our solar system that orbits between Saturn & Uranus. Orbiting between these two planets suggests that Chiron’s energies are strong and awakening.

Chiron was a healer in Greek Mythology, and an immortal centaur. One day he was struck by a poisoned arrow from Hercules, which Chiron taught him how to make. He lived with incredible pain until he offered up his immortality to Prometheus who we know later gave fire to mankind.

This story shows us that we are our own worst enemy at times, and surrender is absolutely key to living a pain free life. Chiron’s placement in our horoscope shows us where are deepest wound is in our life and at the same time, how we can heal all that’s unwell in our life. The wound is a symptom of something larger going on within.

Chiron in Pisces

Chiron was transiting Pisces from 2010 until April 17, 2018. This 8 year transit saw us delving deep into the mystical energies of Pisces. It was a time where a lot of people underwent some serious spiritual awakenings and it was during this period that we saw the “New Age” becoming more mainstream. Fanaticism, deception, and floods, tsunamis, and hurricanes were running rampant. On a personal level, Chiron in Pisces forced us to swim in the deep waters of our subconscious, to peel back the layers of our 3rd dimensional reality to understand that what we see is not true reality. Many people underwent serious spiritual transformations.

Chiron in Aries

Chiron will move in and out of Aries until 2019- so the real hard work of Aries will be felt more in 2019.

Aries is the sign of self. It is an independent, initiative, birthing, soul forging through into new life energy.

Collective Level

On a collective level, Chiron in Aries will bring out a more self serving energy similar to the “America First” thing going on in the United States. I predict there will be less solidarity as everyone will be in it for themselves. Aries greatest wound is learning to accept help from others, so on a global scale, I predict there will be more push backs against trade agreements and geographical agreements such as the European Union and NAFTA. I also predict there will be more wars, and the devastation caused by war will force everyone to take a hard look at themselves. I actually noticed as soon as Chiron entered Aries, a G7 summit was held, and a lot of Western movies were airing on the television. The Wild West is a perfect illustration of a Chiron in Aries energy, because it was  “an every man in it for himself time.”

Personal Level

On a personal level, Chiron in Aries will offer deep healing of our identity. We will come to learn so much more about who we are and what our place is in the vast world and universe. We will be questioning our purpose and existence asking the question “Who am I?”

Another large wound of Aries is self love. A soul born with a lot of Arian energy usually lacks self love. This is because with a lot of Aries energy comes a new incarnational cycle. How many of us are truly confident and comfortable when we are experiencing something for the first time? Most of us feel awkward and shy, or our Egos compensate and we become overly confident only to suffer a bruised ego later on when we fail miserably or don’t live up to our own expectations. There will be a lot of healing on this level. Self love first requires self trust which is something we will be confronted with a lot during these next 8 years. Aries wants you to experience a lot of new things, but in order to truly experience them, a certain level of trust has to be present, and so Chiron will be forcing you to become self reliant. It’s no longer about the Pisces escapism where during the past 8 years you might have retreated into your head a lot. No, Chiron in Aries will push you into a lot of new situations head on that will force you to deal with them. We all know that you learn the most about yourself when you are challenged and try new things. Remember, Chiron in Aries is all about the self “who am I?”

Chiron in Pisces helped us understand the spiritual side to life, but that information is useless unless we can use it for self empowerment which in turn will empower humanity. Chiron in Aries will take all that “spiritual stuff” and make us use it for self analysis. Questioning your place in the “spiritual industry” and the universe itself will be very strong. We are moving away from healing deep emotional wounds to healing deep action oriented wounds. How are you holding yourself back? Are you afraid of taking some steps? Do you care about what other people think of you too much? What do you really want to accomplish in your life?

Aries is the warrior so you will feel the push to go your own way during this transit. It’s a very independent sign, so at times you might feel very lonely, but getting in touch with yourself is the only way to repair this Chiron wound. The heart is a lonely hunter.

Chiron in Aries will confront issues around self-love, self-worth, and identity that will create a balm of self awareness that will be the cure to the Aries wound of an unconscious self.

Saturn Retrograde April 17-September 6, 2018: Shhhhhh

Silence. A word here that invokes the energy of this year’s Saturn retrograde. It is commonly believed that when a planet turns retrograde it appears as though it is moving backwards in the sky. However, this is merely an optical illusion. The planet actually slows down, it doesn’t travel in the opposite direction.

Saturn entered Capricorn December 2017 and the the theme is about restructuring your concrete reality. Saturn produces a manifesting energy in Capricorn because it naturally rules this sign. Saturn feels comfy here, not happy as he would in Libra, but comfortable nonetheless. If you would like to learn more about what this transit is all about, check out my Saturn in Capricorn blog here.

Saturn Retrograde in Capricorn will give Saturn the time is so desires to reconstruct the house it is currently transiting for you. He will be doing this anyways until 2020, but he has more time during these next 5 months to make some great headway. Come September, you will look back over the previous 5 months and see how much your life has changed.

Many Vedic Astrologers have been discussing how Saturn Retrograde can create more fights and confrontations between people. (Keep in mind, that in Vedic Astrology, Saturn is in Sagittarius, not Capricorn). I also agree with this, because whenever we experience a slowing down of energy in our lives, we get cranky and irritable because we want to move ahead, but we can’t. Please remember that Saturn brings lots of karmic changes to you, so there’s alot that first has to be tweaked behind the scenes before your external reality can change. This is what Saturn Retrograde is doing.

Don’t get into fights, choose your battles wisely, don’t instigate or provoke anyone, and think before you speak. This transit is affecting everyone, so naturally everyone is going to be on edge for a few months. Saturn is the lord of karma and morals, so he is watching your behaviour very closely. If you act irresponsibly, he will strike you down with a heavy dose of karma. You may not feel it right away, but certainly when he turns direct in September, you will. Be the bigger person, turn the other cheek, watch what you say and you will be greatly rewarded. Mind you, if someone is swinging punches at you and pushing your buttons, you will have to defend yourself…but do it honourably and gracefully as opposed to handling it immaturely.

You are the actor and Saturn is your PR person. He wants you to act responsibly and maturely when the pressure is on during his retrograde cycle so he doesn’t feel that all of his restructuring is a waste.

It’s no coincidence that the ‘Shhhhh’ sound is Saturn’s sound in Vedic Astrology.

New Moon in Aries April 16, 2018: La liberté de la lune

Date: Monday April 16, 2018

Moonbeams: Refreshing, new beginnings, shocking, unexpected, persevering

Main Lesson: With inspiration comes perspiration

The underground rebellion La Luna is preparing fora revolt against the stagnant boring regime of reality. Dramatic? I know. But this is what the New Moon in Aries is going to feel like. A revolution in our lives is coming.

The Aspects

A New Moon is when the Sun and Moon conjunct, turning the moon invisible. This is happening in the sign of Aries which is a recalibrating, refreshing, passionate, forward moving, rebirthing, independent sign. The Sun is exalted in Aries, so he is ready to initiate changes in your life. The Moon in Aries is impulsive. You’re rearing to go.

Uranus is conjunct this NM adding a cooky flavour to this lunation. Uranus is unpredictable, unusual, electric, and awakening. The Moon is already on fire, and Uranus is plugging it into its circuit of the unexpected.

Mercury is stationing direct in Aries during this NM which is also adding a very impulsive go getter feeling. Progress will start to be made after this time.

Venus in Taurus is opposite Jupiter in Scorpio which brings in the question of material vs. spiritual. We want to get going with our plans, but Jupiter wants you to look at things from a higher perspective.

Mars is in Capricorn, the composed soldier who wants the revolution to start, but conjunct Saturn and Pluto makes him frustrated because Saturn and Pluto want him to be more methodical and strategic.

Aries is the spark of inspiration and Capricorn is the manifestation of that spark. The two signs work well together, and we do have a strong emphasis of both during this NM. Saturn is stationing before he turns retrograde on April 18, so the revolution is starting now, but you won’t see the results for quite some time.

Venus trine Mars will help us infuse some love to our situation so we aren’t so frustrated and angry.

Neptune sextile Mars will quiet the energy of revolution so we can tune in to our inner world which will have some very important things to say during this time.

Uranus is the higher octave of Mercury and he is charged up at the NM and Mercury is direct. Messages in the form of synchronicity’s and inspiration will be very strong.

Things to Keep in Mind

Keep in mind that Uranus conjunct the NM will trigger unexpected events in the Aries ruled area of your life. Something will come out of the blue. Also, you might find yourself doing something out of the ordinary that shocks and surprises you. For example; if the NM is occurring in your 10th house of career, you might suddenly receive a promotion, get fired, or choose to go down a different path. It could also mean new beginnings in the life of your father.

The New Moon in Aries marks the official start of the New Year in many cultures. This is our first New Moon in Aries since the cosmic new year on the Spring Equinox. With Uranus conjunct the NM, expect the unexpected during the next 12 months. There will be a lot of surprises and shocks that will completely transform your life. Remember, Uranus is at the last few degrees in Aries before he moves into Taurus in May, so whatever he wants to shake up in your Aries house, he will be shaking up during the New Moon.

Capricorn squaring the NM indicates that restructuring is happening, but it will gradually happen over the next so many months. It’s hard to be patient when there’s so much electric energy in the air right now, but with inspiration comes perspiration.

The revolution is starting. This is more about planning out your rebellion as opposed to marching up to the castle to behead the ruler. Successful revolutions are strategic, and persevering. There’s a grumbling of change right now. In time, it will all be different. Liberation is on its way.

New Moon on Monday by Duran Duran

This song is all about an underground resistance called La Luna who are planning to overthrow the government. The lyrics are a little odd in perfect Uranian fashion, and the video depicts the energies of this NM in a cinematic music video way.

Shake up the picture the lizard mixture
With your dance on the eventide
You got me coming up with answers
All of which I deny
I said it again
But could I please rephrase it
Maybe I can catch a ride
I couldn’t really put it much plainer
But I’ll wait ’til you decide
Send me your warning siren
As if I could ever hide
Last time La Luna
I light my torch and wave it for the
New moon on Monday
And a fire dance through the night
I stayed the cold day with a lonely satellite
New moon on Monday
And a fire dance through the night
I stayed the cold day with a lonely satellite
Breaking away with the beast of both worlds
A smile that you can’t disguise
Every minute I keep finding
Clues that you leave behind
Save me from these reminders
As if I’d forget tonight
This time La Luna
I light my torch and wave it for the
New moon on Monday
And a fire dance through the night
I stayed the cold day with a lonely satellite
New moon on Monday
And a fire dance through the night
I stayed the cold day with a lonely satellite
