International Cat Day

In honour of International Cat Day, I have compiled my favourite mystical black cats from some of my favourite movies!

1. Salem Saberhagen from Sabrina the Teenage Witch. If you are a 90s kid, you will remember this saucy and adorable black cat. I remember writing to the show when I was little, asking if they could make a puppet of Salem that I could buy…….unfortunately they didn’t.

2. Cat from Coraline. Even though Coraline dubbed him the ‘wuss puss,’ he ended up being one heroic cat…….and I loved his voice!

3. Pyewacket from Bell, Book, & Candle. Kim Novak portrayed a witch who used Pyewacket as her familiar. She would hypontically stare into his eyes so he could do her bidding. Great film for all you witchy’s out there! As a side note, this cat was named after the first known black cat familiar of a witch detected by the “witchfinder general” Matthew Hopkins in March 1644 in the town of Manningtree, Essex, England.

4. Cosmic Creepers from Bedknobs & Broomsticks. This kitty was ferocious and fabulous. I especially love it when he scares the kids at the beginning of the film…….what a great name!

Isn’t a lovely synchronicity that today is International Cat Day along with the Lion’s Gate? This is some serious feline fierceness!
