Givenchy’s Fall 2016 collection was inspired by Ancient Egypt and a touch of Greek mythology. Eye of Horus necklaces and motifs were juxtaposed against crocodile leather boots and gold detailing that I’m sure even miss Cleopatra herself would fancy. Jackets with wing motifs, mandalas, and other Egyptian iconography were a breath of the much farther past, as opposed to the Romantic Neo-Edwardian inspirations that have been featured on the Fall 2016 runways thus far. An updated version of the Egyptian eye was also shown which had a smokier element to it.The show was held at the Carreau du Temple (which has a history with the Knights Templar) and the runway was set up as a labyrinth to carry on the mystical theme. Ricardo Tisci is celebrating his 10th year at Givenchy, and what a better way to celebrate the future of the house then to go back to literally where it all began.
